Our Students participate in Dance on Mondays. They have enjoyed learning everything from Hip Hop to Western style dancing. This has been a very enjoyable experience and the students have truly enjoyed it. The biography for our dance instructor is below.
Sharon Crockett has been both a performer and producer/director of theatrical and musical productions across the United States. With over 35 years in the industry, she brings with her both the old and the new for a delightful combination of theatrical productions.
Her career began at the age of 5 years old when she starred in Paxton Playschool’s production of King Midas as his daughter. It was this role that convinced her parents to allow her to develop and further her talents. This led to nine years of ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance lessons at the Jeanette Grider School of Dance. High school found her being cast as the lead dancer in Kiss Me Kate.
Ms. Crockett entered the University of Detroit where she majored in theatre and dance. An audition for a production as an extra with the Martha Graham Dancers found her cast in the nationally acclaimed dance production of Wade in the Water. After moving to Portland Oregon, Ms. Crockett auditioned for a lead role in the West Coast Touring Company and production of HAIR where she was cast as Dionne, ABEY BABY and a look alike for Diana Ross. She also played the lead role, Gilda in the University of Portland’s children theatre production of Please Don’t Sneeze.
After 10 years of theatre and dance performance, Ms. Crockett decided to leave a legacy by taking on the role of producer and director of children’s productions.
This love of the arts gave her the idea to combine theatre, movement and dance, music and art in a program for children to encourage team work, positive self esteem, physical activity and plain old fun. A year in the Montessori Teaching Training program gave her insight into how children learn best.
Ms. Crockett creates/produces and directs original theatrical productions created especially for and inspired by children.
